The village has about 118 residents, grew up around an ancient baglio, a little more than 10 km away from the municipal capital, which becomes about 2,000 in summer. On the west side of the "cala" there is a cylindrical tower dating back to the 16th century. guarding that stretch of coast. we find also the Tonnara di Scopello is one of the most important and ancient of all Sicily: the first buildings date back to the thirteenth century, the real Tonnara was built in the fifteenth century by Giovanni Sanclemente and expanded by the family Sanclemente during the sixteenth century; he then passed to the Society of Jesus and finally to the Florio family.
